Cardiology Services
Transthoracic
Echocardiography (TTE) |
|
Transthoracic echocardiograms are performed daily at the
UConn Health Center in Farmington. Mobile echo studies
are also performed in multiple sites including Canton,
Simsbury, East Hartford, Bristol, Avon, Plainville and
Bloomfield.
|
Transesophogeal
Echocardiography (TEE) |
| The Pat
and Jim Calhoun Cardiology Center at the UConn Health
Center has an active TEE program with inpatient and
outpatient studies performed daily.
|
Exercise Stress
Echocardiography |
|
Exercise stress echocardiography is performed daily at
the UConn Health Center for
evaluation of coronary artery disease, as well as valvular disorders and pulmonary hypertension.
|
3D Echocardiography |
The
UConn Cardiovascular Advanced Imaging Center uses
cutting-edge echocardiography technology to perform 3D
echocardiograms. This novel modality has proven accuracy
for assessment of mitral valve disorders, atrial spetal
defects, and determination of left ventricular volumes.

UConn Cardiovascular Advanced Imaging Center has an
active program in Dobutamine Stress Echocardiography (DSE)
for the evaluation of cardiac viability, low gradient
aortic stenosis, and other pathology.

Cardiac MRI |
|
Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is an advanced
technique for visualization of the heart. At the UConn
Cardiovascular Advanced Imaging Center, cardiac MRIs are
performed for diagnosis and evaluation of a wide range
of disorders including valvular disease,
cardiomyopathies, arrhythmogenic right ventricular
dysplasia (ARVD), hypertrophic cardiomyopathy,
sarcoidosis, amyloidosis, pulmonary veins disorders and
many others. Studies are performed weekly at the UConn
Health Center in Farmington, and interpreted by members
of the cardiology and radiology divisions working as a
team.
- To order a cardiac MRI, please download, print,
and complete a MRI
request (PDF). Fax the completed form to the
Radiology Department at 860-679-4126. Once this is
done, either the referring physician or the patient
must call the radiology scheduling line at
860-679-2784 to schedule the exam.
- Scheduling office hours are Monday through
Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. After hours you may leave a
detailed message and a scheduler will return your
call to arrange the appointment.

Cardiac CT |
Cardiac computed tomography (CT) scanning is a
non-invasive method for imaging of the heart and
coronary arteries. Recently, the UConn Cardiovascular
Advanced Imaging Center acquired a Siemens Dual-Source
64-slice CT scanner. With this technology, detailed
images of the myocardium and coronary arteries can be
obtained over a wide range of heart rates without need
for beta blocker pre-treatment. We also can use “step
and shoot” protocols to minimize radiation exposure to
the patient. This represents a dramatic technological
improvement over older-generation scanners. Studies are
performed daily in the Pat and Jim Calhoun Cardiology
Center for coronary calcium scoring and coronary
angiography. The images are interpreted by members of
the cardiology and radiology divisions working as a
team. We employ a wide range of protocols, including the
“triple rule-out” for the simultaneous evaluation of the
proximal aorta, pulmonary arteries and coronary vascular
bed.
- To order a cardiac CT, please download, print,
and complete a CT
request (PDF). Fax the completed form to the
Radiology Department at 860-679-4126. Once this is
done, either the referring physician or the patient
must call the radiology scheduling line at
860-679-2784 to schedule the exam.
- Scheduling office hours are Monday through
Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. After hours you may leave a
detailed message and a scheduler will return your
call to arrange the appointment.
